How Do I Select a Vehicle Tracking Device?
There are many GPS vehicle tracking systems on the market today. There are a few important factors you must take into account prior to selecting the tracking technology that is right for you.
1. Cost of Ownership - In order to communicate with your gps vehicle tracking devices celluar technology is employed. Most GPS suppliers simply use an existing celluar carrier to accomplish this. This involves yearly fees much like your cell phone in order to keep the device online. This is called airtime. Usually airtime is included in the price of the unit for the first 1 or so. After that you must pay once again to keep your unit activated.
The RCI Wireless Control DIFFERENCE
We do things differently. We operate our vehicle tracking systems on our own PROPRIETARY celluar network. Once you purchase a device from us - you will never pay another charge to track your vehicles. Our ability to manage our own vehicles tracking network also allow us to provide you will much more in-depth statistics regarding the location and activities of your vehicles.
2. GPS Vehicle Tracking device reliability - With the large number of different gps vehicle tracking devices on the market how do you know if a device is a reliable one? Simple.
STEP 1 - Open it up. Do you see a cellular phone inside? Throw it away. Do you want to secure your investment with a (most likely) refurbished cellphone? No.
- make sure the tracking device is industrial or automotive grade.
- make sure the gps vehicle tracker uses a DEDICATED CPU - not just the CPU from its GSM module.
- make sure the gps tracking device is FCC CERTIFIED if in the US, NOM certified if in Mexico, or CE certified if in Europe.
- make sure components of the device are coated to protect from dust and moisture, the two most deadly substance to electronics.
- verify that the gps vehicle tracking device has coverage in your planned area of use.
STEP 2 - Ask for references. Contact the references - how many vehicle trackers do they use? For how long? This is a good guage of whether or not devices perform well. Remember however that the references are provided by a salesperson. Ask the reference for SECONDARY references.
STEP 3 - Search the internet for feedback on the company. Do they have a good reputation?
STEP 4 - Buy one tracking device for testing purposes. How does it install? How quickly does it install?
STEP 5 - Ask through a walkthrough of the vehicle tracking interface. Is it easy to use and understand?
